Money Saving Experts

Heads Up Folks In my ever desperate attempts to reclaim my backpacking youth we have squeezed in an extra adventure this year, and in the interests of significant economising, have also managed to recreate some of those bucket shop flight itineraries that we thought were a thing of the past. If the outbound journey goes to plan it will look something like this. I have limited faith that it will look anything like this, so let's see how the blog unfolds for the first couple of days. If all goes to plan we (and our luggage) will be in Vancouver by Saturday night local time, and then can start reflecting on how the rest of the holiday will look. Obviously details will follow but the plan as it stands will be to travel by bus from Vancouver to Seattle, then pick a car and drive to Vegas.

En route we hope to do some of the following:
 - Cross between Canada and USA by bus
 - Live like Frasier Crane in Seattle, and run with a local running group
 - Run a Parkrun under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransisco and watch a baseball game
  - Hike through Yosemitie and then drive the infamous Tioga Pass
  - Fry an egg in Death Valley
  - Zipline down Fremont Street in Vegas

There will be plenty of other opportunities with stops in Salem (no not that one), Klamath (avoiding forest fires), Santa Rosa (was that a soap opera) and of course Vancouver. Am loathe to plan too much around Vancouver as am not banking on arriving when I think we should arrive. But I believe some sort of skytrain will be the way to go. But any suggestions between now and arrival more than appreciated. There is a comments box and we love to get a few pointers or reflections as we make our way around. Anyway, this is the opening shots from me, back to the packing, it all begins tomorrow afternoon as we drive up to Heathrow.....

Carys -

Well, as one book closes another opens. In this case, the books are titled South Africa Adventurers and Canada & America Conquerors. The more I think about this trip, the more excited I become. Travelling seems to have become a major part of my life, and a part I am lucky to have, and
will always enjoy.

Our first journey - via aeroplane - seems like a difficult one, but hopefully it will run smoothly and without disruption. It's like a chain reaction, if one thing goes wrong, a lot goes wrong. However, we are thinking positively, and fingers crossed we will arrive safely.

Some of the things we will do on holiday are things that I never thought I would experience. It's such an exciting trip, and I am very grateful for it. I hope you all enjoy keeping up with what we do, and living it with us through this blog.

I don't have much else to say at the moment, as I'm not the one who explains all the details, I just give my opinions and views, so I think I'll leave this here for now. Thank you to anyone who has been reading since our first blog - that seems like ages ago now - or welcome to any more recent readers. Bye for now!

  2. You'll get welcomed and briefed by a guy called Dale Rose at Crissy Field Parkrun, an absolutely lovely guy.
Please say hello to him from me (he took the photos of me in my 23in23 t-shirt looking at the Golden Gate Bridge).

  3. Sounds Wonderful Lloyd and Carys, as my holiday comes to an end it will be great to share with yours.

I did this route in reverse in 2009, beginning my love for Canada, which explains why I am here now - have a great trip.

IT WAS A WENDY'S

Not the parking lot of a Taco Bell, our favourite ever quote from Friends, and one that has been oft repeated on this and other trips. ...
